SPEAKER – Dec 17th 2014: Betty Webb Award winning mystery author Betty Webb of the Lena Jones Series – “Which Comes First — the Chicken or the Egg?”
A successful novelist/journalist/book critic/writing teacher discusses writing as an art and a business — and which should come first. Betty will also talk about the decisions she has had to make while existing in four vastly different writing worlds, covering creativity, working habits, marketing, and the ethical conflicts that have arisen during her more than 40 years as a professional writer.
Betty Webb is a journalist who has interviewed U.S. presidents, Nobel Prize winners, astronauts who walked on the moon, and polygamy runaways. Now best known for her prize-winning Lena Jones crime novels (Desert Wives, Desert Rage, etc.), and the humorous Gunn Zoo mysteries (The Llama of Death, etc.), she has taught creative writing at Phoenix College and master classes at Arizona State University. For the past 30 years, she has been a syndicated book critic and has served as a judge for national literary awards. Among the organizations she belongs to are the National Federation of Press Women, the Author’s Guild, and Mystery Writers of America. She is a docent for the Phoenix Zoo, where she volunteers.
Author of DESERT RAGE and other Lena Jones mysteries
